My steering cylinder has a few scoring lines in it. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to hone it out? Also, after I go to the bank and get a loan to buy a new rod/piston, should I also buy new rings or reuse my old ones?

David,

I guess I can't say for sure that it's one piece. I don't see any nut holding it together so the rod must be threaded into the piston. There will be no harm in trying to unscrew the piston from the rod so I will try that and see what happens. I can send you photos.

Is the extra rod you have for sale?

HI,
Yes, quite happy to sell it. Will take a photo and some dimensions and e-mail them to you tomorrow.

Hello Steven,
Further to your previous posting;
Are you sure that the piston and rod are in one piece? How is it held on? There are two types in the UK, Hydrosteer and Laser. One is held on by a standard lock nut and the other by a shallow headed bolt. Any chance of a photo of that end?
I actually have a new rod here that was incorrectly ordered. As to the scoring of the bore a light honing would not do any harm. A new ring is always advisable as is a seal for the rod.
Regards
David
