I use 10 w non detergent in my 1950 M H 30. I dont think 90 wight oil will work in very cold weather. Maybe the new 90 weight is dif. than the old thick 90 weight trans and rear end oil. Make sure it isnt any kind of detergent oil or you will have problems with the lift because the oil will foam up and not pump properly. I might be wrong but this is the way it has worked for me for several years. Sam

The newer multi power hydraulic oils that cross about a 100 different specs are far superior to straight 90.Just like straight 30 is outdated for engine oil.Oil has improved greatly from the 50-60"s. If you feel unsure about trusting a 18 yer old kid at TSC call a reputable oil distributor and tell him what you have if you want to be real specific.A hydralic pump is pretty standard in desigh, its not the Space Shuttle.

I use to think this way to about oil in my vintage tractors , until my oil distributer actually spent some time explaining a few things.

My question is: do I use a lightweight 10 or 20 weight or straight 90, or any multi power for the auxillery hydraulics- This seams light a huge swing- I just don't want to screw up the hydralic pump???

The small tank is the reservoir for the 3 point hydraulics. The pump itself is located in front of the motor. The tank is rougly 6 inches in diamiter and 18 inches tall and is centered in front of the radiator.

The problem with the modern EP oils in some vintage Massey equipment is that the sulfur to make the EP is reputed to eat the brass bushings in the vintage transmissions. So the factory calls for straight 90, then and now.

Massey built it. TSC doesn't want to carry that oil. Try NAPA. Its been reported repeatedly that NAPA has straight 90 or can get it.
