My MF 135 which I bought new has 1235 hrs. It has two stage clutch live pto. Hard to shift transmission unless I push pedal all way down. Have adjusted free travel to 1/2 inch to stop. Can fingers be adj on pressure plate, any idea how to get more life out of clutch. Never abused or slipped clutch or done foward & backward work that required more than normal clutch use. Hate to have to split tractor if fingers can be adj. Thanks No strange noises from clutch.

I need to look but I think I have a MF-135 ,150 and probably a few other models genuine Massey shop manual for those tractors. We needed it one time for a project at work. I might as well get rid of it.

Hello,
No problem. The first stage is running into the second stage before it releases.
Remove the plate from underneath the clutch housing. Look at the clutch unit and you'll see 3 adjusting bolts spaced around the unit. You will need two good fitting 1/2" AF open ended spanners.
The clearance that you need to adjust to is approx 080". The actual figure is not critical, what is more important is that they are done the same. A suitable tool is to grind the teeth off two hand hacksaw blades. The combined thickness is a suitable tool. Slacken each locknut just a little until you can screw the bolts in to achieve the correct gap. Then nip up the nuts. It should not be necessary to adjust the pedal again.
Make sure that the PTO stops (nothing attached) well before the end of its travel when you press the pedal fully.
An awkward job the first time but very satisfying.
