I am wondering what a AD3-152 perkins diesel engine should cost in good condition.I really only need the complete short block, they seized the engine due to low oil.I am looking at a early MF 35.
Any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure the head from an AD3-152 will fit an A-152. I know the heads will NOT interchange between the A4-203 and AD4-203. The 153 is basically 3/4 of the 203.

Vito:

I agree with 135, below. The A3-152 Perkins is a relatively inexpensive engine to rebuild.

You need to find out if the A3-152 in your tractor can be switched to the AD3-152 or what the differences are. The AD3-152 is the newer direct injection version. It wouldn't hurt to tear your engine apart. It might be cheaper to fix it than replace it. Dave

Vito:

Though I cannot quote prices from memory, you can check ValueBilt online as they list both Perkins A3-152 Perkins short and long blocks.

we have just finished a complete rebuild of a MF 35 w/152 perkins the tractor would not start, low compression all 3 pistons cracked rings worn out liners scored, head heat stressed and crank shaft thrust brng. gone we worked head new valves machined both block and head shop work about $400 parts all new A&I $400 labor $300 new paint $300 tractor came out ok runs the best We gave $1300 for the tractor as it was, now WE are asking $4500 for it, it has factory ps, live pto 24" rear tires and a new seat, steering wheel about $100 looks good and runs the best, if you can take down your engine and you will find a lot of parts are useable and rebuild the easy way lol

You should tear the engine down and see what damage has been done. You may be able to reuse your own block and have the crankshaft measured to see if can be ground undersize. If this block is not damaged and can be rebuilt you would then know what you have. Buying another engine that you don't know anything about isn't a very good idea. Check out www.farmerlink.com on their rebuilt engines. Hal

Before you get any ideas obout your engine in 1984 when i worked at a MF dealer a costomer locked down a 135 d. I took it down and the bearings were welded to the crank. I took a hammer and chisel knocked off the old brg polished it up. measured it had it checked for being bends and reassembled it. I am not saying that you are going to have the same results but the process they use to harden the shaft is pattented by mersedies B. Their is not going to be a cheap way out and you will get what you pay for think long and hard before buying someone else"s problem.
