MF35 3-Cyl High Oil Pressure

The oil pressure on my MF35 (with AD3-152 diesel engine)is reading high - off the scale in fact.
It's been like this since I've had it (a few months). It goes high about 30 secs after starting.
I have changed the oil and filter, but it made no difference. The old oil was black but otherwise looked fine. The oil strainer at the bottom was cleaned (not that it was dirty).
I have tested the gauge with a footpump and I estimate 65psi is required to push the needle off the scale.
I have searched the database and found a few references but am seeking clarification on what actual pressure the gauge should be reading.
Also, I want to know what are the consequences of continuing to use it with high oil pressure.
Thanks for any help.

The MF 35 came with the A3-152. The AD3-152 came in the 135. Dave

My 245 Perkins runs at 60-65 hot. Never verified the gauge.

The normal oil pressure range for an AD3-152 is 30-60 lbs at operating temperature.
Is your pressure gauge original? I assume it's the red-green scale type and does not show actual pressure. If it's not original somebody may have put in a 50 lb gauge instead of an 80 lb gauge.

I"m not that familiar with the Perkins , but most lube systems have a pressure relief sytem to bypass some of the pump output when the oil is cold or there is a restriction in the oil filter, etc. It could be the relief valve in your engine is stuck. It"s usually a spring with cylindrical "piston" or a ball in cylindrical passage and it is usually designed to maintain a near constant pressure in the lube system.( My TO-30, for example, holds 27 psi hot or cold and independent of the rpm.) The passage that the valve rides in can get gummed up or sludged and that will cause the valve to stick. In your case it may be stuck closed.

Hope this helps.

my AG-152 oil pressure goes up to about 75 at start-up and gradually drops to about 50 after real good workout, thats at PTO speed, pressure drops right off at idle

you might temporarily try a cheepo gauge from Autozone or such with the plastic tube so see how close your dash gauge is
