Well this thing appears to have a hand clutch. So how does it work. It seems the want to stay in the forward position unless held on to and pulled back is that normal?? How does it work. Does it disengage the rear axle some how or what??
Thanks

You have a tractor with the optional live power. There should be 3.5 to 4 inches free play when you pull the lever before it does anything. You have to hold the lever back to stop the forward motion but the pto will still run. It doesn't snap over center like an AC. It is a good system if the clutches don't get rearend grease on them. My 44 Diesel didn't work when I got it--everything was stuck together with dried grease. New seals and a good cleaning fixed it. Be careful if you take it apart-Lots of parts and springs under pressure. You'll learn some new words putting it back together.

Think it is quite common on the 33 and maybe 44 specials

Well, this could be off base, but on my Allis Chalmers CA, the hand clutch, when pulled back, stops the final drive unit, but leaves the tractor otherwise running normally, so the PTO continues to run (if it is on). This gives it live PTO, so to speak. It can be handy.

I understand the Allis set up I was just wondering if it worked like it did on the CA which from what I'm seeing it does. Sort of funny how different companies got live PTO by doing many different things

Old. The hand clutch disengages the differntal shaft. Hold it back and you will stop if properly adjsted. However if it is to lose it will slip un a heavy load. Therefore some are tightened so tight they can't work. They are the same principal as MM Z, U, and G,

Is the hand clutch a common thing on these or was it one of those 1 in 500 type of thing one the 33s?
Thanks.
By the way you have mail

paul is right, this was an option, you will see more with out it than you will with the live power clutch lever.

I don't quite follow your question Virgil.Does the low side work at all in none of the gears??Any noise in the low side?the hi-lo has nothing to do with the LPTO.Have you checked the linkage on the Hi-Lo shifter to make sure the gear is moving inside.Your Hi.side is direct (same as the reg.5 SPeed.)Answer some of these questions and maybe I can help.I have been in alot of them but have had only one Failure.Man had a bearing failure and didn't stop running it,grinding up two gears. The noise??? Answer back.

333 all gears work fine in high side. none work in low side. when i've tried low side of all gears high /low lever will jump out. and sometimes make a grinding sound. needing some adjustments on high low lever makes sense. i don't find anything about making adjustments in my i&t manual. i'll have to look for it monday.
send me an e-mail and i'll give you a phone number to call.

Virgil, overlook the previous post,I didn't find it quickly tonight. There is a detent plunger, spring that are on the rocker shaft. You don't need the tractor running to check these. When you shift the Hi.Lo.it should click or snap in either one and the lever shouldn't come out without resistance to move it.The whole unit is simple as simple can be BUT those are the worst kind to fix.If You don't have a parts breakdown and have a Fax Line,I can fax you the Parts sheet. Good Luck!

Old,I will refine what I said IF someone wants one to Restore and not try to farm with then yes it might be worth more, but there are too many things that can go wrong in that system and if that hollow shaft goes bad then you have a 100% parts tractor.

I don't know must be something to do with the year made. More on newer than older, or an option

As I recall, that is the live power lever. Seems you could pull that back to stop the forward motion of the tractor, but keep the PTO running. Been nearly 30 years since I ran one, but I think that is what it was for. Others will chime in I am sure.
