Hey all, I have a 1979 1105 massey tractor, and it's been a great tractor. but the other day my dad was driving it down the road, and the right hand rear brake seized up. We cracked the brake bleeder, and presto, all ok. Drove another 300 yards, and it did it again? Then the left side did it once too? I'm just wondering if anybody has experienced this before, or is it a sign of rear end trouble, or planitary trouble?

Sincerely,

Craig Russell

I think 1105's were built prior to 1978. The brakes on a 1105 are independet of the tractor hydraulic system except for the small line that keeps the brake master cylinder topped off with oil from the priorty valve.. Firts thought is the diff lock valve , if it has one ,by pass it and see if that helps(air). Second thought, How much dirt and crap has fallen into the space under the brake pedal area not allowing the master cylinders room to back clear up? Third thought, make sure return line from brake master cylinder is open back to the top of the transmission. HTH

First off, my books show 1976 as the last year for the 1105. Are you sure of the year? If its like the rest, the brakes are operated by the same hydraulic pump that lifts the 3 point and shifts the multipower. It would be a thought that you have air in the brake lines. This would not be uncommon if your fluids are foaming. The second thought it that the actuator valve is leaking. Meaning the pedal is leaking fluid past with the pedal in the released position. With the tractor off, pump the pedals until you get a little back pressure. See if it holds with steady pressure on the brake. The other thing to try is to release the dump valve (if equipped) and see if the brake releases. Do NOT do this while traveling at any speed, you will NOT have steering, brakes, or any hydraulics. Its only to test while the brake is locked up and not in motion.
