Requesting help for best way to fix a 235 PS box with broken sector #1698365M1. I researched this forum and other sites to check comments and parts etc and have studied it carefully. Still unclear of best way to fix. Comments always conclude that this is a poor steering syatem but that doesn"t solve the problem. There must have been a kit #1243M91 released in 1976 to upgrade the steering but I can"t determine what all is in it. Anyone have a copy of that Dealer Service Bulletin? Massey still offers that kit for about $1900.00 but there must be a more economical way to fix it. The sectors appear to have wider teeth on the updated ones from 1/8" to 1/4" at top. The steering shaft nut also appears to have been changed to work with the wider teeth on the sectors. Mine has the newer "nut" with 4 teeth but has the 1/8" teeth on the broken sector. Seems odd? The other sector has teeth that measure 3/16" at the top so I am unclear what that is. The only broken part is the one sector but the bushings and bearing on it are also worn. I am not aware if it was leaking anywhere. The parts available from several sources are unclear on exactly what is included. This site seems to offer the best explanation that I could find but wanted to check if anyone has any other advice. Thanks in advance!!

Phil, Any previous service bulletins have to do
with hard steering due to pressure build up,etc
and also on heavy clutch effort if you may also
have that problem. If I can find more I will
respond by later tonight. Chuck

I don't know if you've looked here but SparexUSA has some sector parts for the 235.
See the link below. Look under Massey Ferguson - Steering Box Components - Series 200

I do have the bulletin # 76-18 issued 10/25/76.
If your dealer is close he should be able to bring that up for you. The bulletin points out
that the MF 235 maint. manual does not accurately
define the servicing procedure. There is a spec.
tool(Nuday) that must be used?? and only your
dealer may have that. The Nuday tool kit is 2365.
If you need me to scan these three sheets, give me
your Email and I'll send. Good luck, Chuck

Hi Chuck, I also have DB76-18 but I'm thinking there was another one earlier that offered update kit #1243M91 and would explain what is in the kit and what it is supposed to improve. There must not be any easy fix for this steering since there are so few responses to this email. I am just uncertain what to order and how the pieces will all match up.
Thanks,
Phil

I have a 235 with bad steering sector too. I'm thinking about trying a 135 sector on it, changing the tranamission shifter top and all. Has anyone tried this with any luck? What kind of problem should I expect?
Jim
