Removed the sediment bowl from my MF-50. It was clogging up, so the tractor ran for a few minutes and stopped. Quick check told me the bottle neck was at the sediment bowl. Anyway, got it cleared and cleaned and the tractor runs great. My question is this: there are two tubes coming out of the sediment bowl that reach into the gas tank. One is short, one is long (maybe 3"). Why are there two -- what's the second tube for?

if this old cut off goes south on you try to get it fixed. the new ones you buy today do not have this reserve option.

I did replace mine, could not get it to cut off fuel, had to stick a 2 1/2 inch piece of copper tube in cutoff before installed. This way you do not draw fuel out of bottom of tank.

The system was to allow for there to be an emergency reserve of gas. If you open the valve on the sediment bowl a couple of turns you get gas from the tank using the taller of the two intakes on the bowl. If you run out of gas you can open the valve all the way open and get gas from the tank through the shorter tube. Thus creating a backup reserve. Works great.
