I am looking at 165 not multi-power. I have been looking for a smaller tractor with power and dependable. I have seen big Deans check list about buying a MF. What I am looking for is advice of major problem that the tractors are prone to. From what I can tell from this site there not many major problems with the 165. All the things I have see posted on this site look like normal wear.

My buddy and I will be using it in Wisconsin hills to log firewood. Pulling long out and pulling trailers of fire wood up or down the logging roads. We only do firewood for his house and mine so we are not doing it commercially. Right now we borrow the neighbors much larger MF or use our little Deere 300 garden tractors or use the truck. We need a real tractor but nothing huge or that will break the bank.

Thanks

they are excellent smaller utility tractors. I have not had any unusual problems with my 1969 165D. I suggest the Perkins Diesel version, as it had a bit more power than the gassers and sips fuel. My biased opinion is that diesels are generally more reliable, especially if the tractor will sit for long periods of time. The 165s are a bit light in the front, so if it doesn't have a loader I suggest adding front suitcase weights, and liquid filling all tires for traction/stability on hills. They are very manueverable and easy to operate in tight spaces. Good luck.

We've used our 165 in the wood before, and as long as the tires can bite down and get good traction, it'll easily skid a good sized tree. We had 1 tree we cut down that was about 18" diamter, and it fell into a crotch of another tree. Ended up pulling the other slightly smaller tree (maybe 8") down with the 165 hooked to the bigger one, while that one was digging into the ground. It's small enough to manuver in the woods, yet has enough power to pull a good sized tree. Just don't get a little crazy and try pulling big ones up a hill or something.
