Hi Myles

I had same problem with my MF-135
The auxiliary pump filter was clogged
and the screen was collapsed in some places.

Fortunately I was able to change it by removing
hydraulic top cover. The MF dealer had a used filter in near new condition. The IPTO works perfectly since.

If my memory is good the transmission & differential case are the same for MF-135...150...165 except the 165 has different trumpet with planetary final drive David may correct me if I'm off. You "may" be able to change the filter by removing the hyd top cover only.
European tractors may have different mechanical configuration. For the main hydraulic pump filter I had to split the tractor to change it.

My 2

Hi Joe,
Looking at your photo there does not seem to be any reason why the filter cannot be removed without splitting the tractor. Yes I believe that the transmissions are similar except that the 135 and similar have the reduction unit at the rear of the gearbox and the 165 and similar have them at the hubs.

Hi David

I do not know why MF did not made a kind of fitting permitting to remove the IPTO releif valve just above the main hydraulic pump filter. It had permitted to remove and reinstall the filter without splitting the tractor to change the filter. To be removed the valve must turned with the nut and cannot be turned in place.

Best regards

Hello Myles,
I am assuming that you have an independant pto. I cannot think of any scenario that will cause this in a dual stage clutch.
You do not mention any Multi-Power problems so again I assume that your tractor does not have MP.
Initial indications suggest a blocked auxillary pump filter. The oil flow is being reduced to a point where there is insufficient oil entering the filter and so the PTO stops. Stopping the PTO allows the 'vacuum' inside the filter to dissipate only for the problem to occur next time.
That's the good news perhaps, now the bad news.
The filter is about the size of a packet of cigarettes and is situated between the IPTO clutch housing and the aux pump. To remove this filter it is necessary to remove the hudraulic cover and split the tractor between the rear of the gearbox and centre casing. Ther is not enough room to remove it with out doing this. It is a straightforward job as long as it can be done safely.

Does this tractor have "Live PTO" (2-stage clutch) or "Idependent PTO"?

I believe it is An independent pto without multi-power.
