150 Gas Pump or Saftey Valve Issue?

Well, I now have put my 150, with gas engine, to work. It does what I want, lifts brush cutter and box blade with no problems. I put a 3000 pound gauge on it and the hydraulics produce 1500 pounds of pressure at PTO speed with the lever in constant pumping.

Question: My manual states that the saftey valve is set at 2250 pounds. How can I tell if the pump is weak or if it is the saftey valve. The filter is clean. I am using MF Permatran oil. The system had 80-90 gear oil in it when I purchased the tractor. I can use the tractor as is, I was just wondering about the pressure.

Thanks, Tom

i just don't get why you are worried about it? if it's lifting like it should whats wrong? old saying is if it ain't broke don't fix it. and if your getting that reading at full lift then the dump valve is open and you will not reach 2250 that's only on a dead lift

As usual Marlowe has succinctly said what I was trying "babbling" to get at in my post below.

i.e. how are you measuring.... with the dump valve open. Or with a dead lift... ie. tying the lift to a tree.

Jeff, I am not planning to fix anything on this tractor. I was just wondering. As to your question: I didn't have the three point blocked or hooked to anything. I checked the pressure with the lift arms raised to full up and the position lever moved past the transport stop to the constant pumping position.

The gauge only reads 200-300 pounds when carrying the box blade in the mid-position. I understand that the system only produces the pressure needed to move the lift arms with a load attached.

This tractor replaced the old 9N, and it is a joy to use compared to the N. Even though I had to cut a few more trees to get it down the paths in the woods.

I do enjoy these boards here at ytmag.

I agree. The only way the pressure can go to max. is if the load on the hydraulics is the max. The hydraulics will only produce enough pressure to do the job. If 2250 PSI isn't needed for the particular job, the pump will only put out the PSI that is required. Dave

How are you testing the pressure? Not where did you put the guage, but, what are you doing to generate the pressure? Ie. picking up your mower etc?

One method to make sure the pressure relief valve is opened is to tie the lift arms down to a tree or other immovable item. Then move the control lever to transport. It will load up to max and open the pressure relief valve.
