Hey guys.... Long story short. Just finished re-storing a 1965 Massey 135 with a Perkins Diesel. When we raise the hydraulics, it only goes 1/2 way up and then shakes... Maybe needs to be bled?.. I dont know. Any advice would be extremley helpful.

Thanks!

They will do that if the Draft control lever (outside lever) is not set in the fully raised position when using the Position control lever.(inside lever). If they will raise ok with no weight on them but not lift a heavy load it may be the master control spring

The system does not have a leak. I raised the arms (as far as they would go) against some weight and it held up all night. The arms dont "hunt" ie.. (keep going up and down), but rather, when they get 1/2 way up they stop, and try to inch their way up, but they cant go any further. But, Ill take a look at the amount of oil that is present, and maybe add some if needed.. Thanks!
Craig

Hello Craig,
There is not a bleeding procedure. The normal operation is to attach an implement of medium weight to the LOWER LINKS ONLY and operate the system 5 or 6 times. I use a concrete block with hooks which fit over the 9 hole bar.
I also have a 1965 MF 135 UK spec.
Silly question perhaps but is there enough oil in the system?
Is the filter on the pump clean? Is the lift actually shaking or pulsing. That is to say raising, falling back a little then raising and repeating this action? If it is this suggests that you have a major leak internally and the system is replacing what is being lost.
I would suggest that if the above items are OK that you drain the oil level back to the bottom bolt on the side cover and remove the cover. Observe the operation of the vertical and pump lever in relation to the position and movement of the control levers. When you operate the control levers the pump lever should respond with a positive movement and return to the central neutral position when the selected height for raising has been reached. The pump lever will remain in the discharge (forward) position if the levers and arms are 'down'.
Please come back with what you have found.
