I read this on another message board concerning the failure of MF Tractor Series 2005, 24speed transmissions.

James22- I worked with the engineer whom did field testing on the 2005 series and knew about the 24 speed transmission problems. Basically if manufacturing would produce the parts to specifications and properly build the transmissions they would be durable. Problem was that the tolerances were very tight and manufacturing standards were not always that good. MF was in financial trouble and couldn"t afford to scrap almost "right parts. Bottom line is that you could get a good transmission that would be great or more likely get one that would fail. Problem with subsequent repair of the failure was/is that the parts, which failed, might not necessarily be the root problem. Therefore it was destined for repeat failures unless you replaced the entire transmission with one that was built correctly. The engineers requested more time to work out the problems before going to production, but management voted otherwise due to the previously mentioned financial conditions. However the engineers again were proved to be wiser because the transmission problems accelerated MF"s downfall and also hurt the farmers whom purchased the tractors.
