I noticed water in the first filter bowl of my 399 so drained it off and cracked open a couple lines on top of the filter, then refilled it with the pump primer.
Tried firing it up no luck, tried repriming 2 or 3 more times still nothing. Cracked open the nuts on the injectors till it was pumping fuel and still no start. I don"t like ether but by this time was ready to try anything. got it to run on ether but it still wouldn"t stay running. Am I missing something?
Your thoughts will be appreciated.

Hi,
There should be a small inspection plate on the side of the pump. Break the seal and remove it. Drain as much fuel as possible from the pump and replace. When you opened the injector pipe nuts were you seeing a 'spit' or a dribble of fuel?
We have had pumps with sea water in them in the past and were OK once drained. Disconnect several pipe nuts and watch the fuel. If its only a dribble you may have pump problems. I assume that the tank filter (if you have one) lift pump and main filters are all clear.
Towing to start will sometimes set up a higher cranking speed for that first time start depending on your transmission.
