Hi,

In our country (not USA) I been told that tractor dealers import used MF 165, change the sleeve and piston with MF 185 and sold in as 185 to get more HP and profit. I have a MF 165 and might just do that to get more HP. How would one know if you have true MF185 or a converted 165 to 185. What are the danger of this conversion?.

I need comments from you guys. Should I do it?

You are obviously talking about an english built 165. The later version of these tractors. Had a 212Perkins with a 3.875 x4.5 inch bore&stroke. The english 175 had a 236 perkins with a 3.875x5 inch bore&stroke. The 185 had a 248 perkins with a 3.975x5 inch bore&stroke. These engines are all the same family. So it is possible to put the 248 sleeves into the 212 block. Now changing the sleeves in your 165 will not make it into a 185. Changing the sleeves will change your 212 into a 223 CID engine. This will put your horse power some where between a 165& a 175.

The service manual for these engines indicates a .040 inch over bore in the biger engine.
