I have a MF 575 tractor which has a leaking ram seal and need help with the removal on the retaining bolt which is situated at the end of the ram shaft that goes into the tractor housing casting. This has got just a threaded bolt just sitting up. Does it have a locking pin at the bottom? Thankyou Ian

Hi,
No, all that holds it is a split pin just below the end of the thread..... and tightness.
You will need a 1/2" unc nut and some washers and use it as a puller. When you have the pin out fit it in the end of the ram and check for play. Wear in the rod hole and up and down movement of the rod in the casting will loose you steering response.

Re MF 575 Thanks for the info. I now have the bolt out of the ram but need assistance with the procedure to remove the Front plate of the ram which houses the ram seal which is held in by an internal sirclip viewed by a small hole. The plate can be turned so it is not siezed Thanks again Ian Australia

Hello from 'Old' South Wales,
The wire whick holds the end cap in has a 90 degree bend at one end. Turn the cap until you come to the plain end of the wire viewed through the hole. On one side of the hole you will see a ramp. Gently with a small flat screwdriver prise the end of the wire onto the ramp by turning the cap in the correct direction. Carry on until you reach the end of the wire and lift it out. Unless you have a new ring take care with the old one. If you have not done so it will be necessary to remove the complete ram from the tractor. Note the pin shims at the other end of the cylinder.
Mount the cylinder in a vice and using a soft hammer tap around the cap end whilst pulling the rod out. This normally works.
