MF 150 Gas Engine - Attempt to start and just get a click. Put the lights on then turn to start and the lights go out for a while. I checked for any breaks in the wiring and put on a new starter Solenoid (the battery is fully charged). Same thing. At this point I am assuming an electrical problem. It had been a easy starter and gets daily use. Any ideas or suggestions on tracing the problem? Thanks !

Shurs sounds like a high resistance problem in circuit. Get a VOM and start checking voltage drop between electical connections and I beleive the problem will show itself quite clearly. I would guess corrosion at battery to battery cable connection or at battery cable to solenoid connection or battery cable to ground connection. You may find it is actually a bad battery cable. One more thing, maybe there is an internal short in the starter motor itself !!!

Checking the connections to the Solenoid: the hot side seems good (12.6) when turn to start the switch side only reads .5 I disconnected the switch wire and checked the wire and it reads (11.7 the same as from the starter switch itself). For fun, I removed the solenoid from the starter and tried. The lights remain on and the reading looked ok. I guess that leaves a short in the starter itself.
