Hi all. I have the lift cover off now on my 230 and i think the problem with the lift is that the position control lever has someting wrong with it. the draft control seems to move correctly but the position control is in a bind and doesnt seem to move anything. the i-t manual leaves a lot to be desired in describing how it is supposed to work so i"m asking the experts. any help or pictures will be greatly appreciated.

i found that that the selector lever arm had slipped on the wrong side of the roller that it rides on and the return spring is gone. anyone know where i can get a spring or can i use any spring that fits that i have laying around. thanks

Hi Steve,
Its a pity you have gone as far as removing the cover at the moment. The first step would have been to remove the round side cover and observe the operation of the levers coming from above on the pump lever. This can be done but if you have the cover upside down it will be more difficult.
Secure the cover in a vice (vise US?) so that the lift arms can move in their range. Block the lift arms up (that is to say as they would be 'down' when fitted to the tractor). Place the position lever in the 'down' position. Imitate the action of the pump lever with your finger. The levers should be well forward. As you raise the control lever the linkage levers should move to the rear as the pump moves into the pumping position to a point well towards the rear. Maintaining the light pressure on the linkage levers unhook the lift arms and allow them to fall slowly (Raise as they would when fitted). The linkage levers should now move to a central position as the pump enters the neutral position at full lift.
This is what should happen if everything is OK.
There is a fine tension spring on the upper side of the position linkage in the cover. Make sure this is in place. Look for any bending of the linkage or where the arms have come off the rollers that they run on.
Good luck
