I have a 35 MF that the lift works fine, except when you have the lift control down when you crank the engine the lift will creep up, even though the control lever is down. Oyherwise the lift operates fine up and down. Please any advice would be helpful.

WB:

Most likely, the control valve oscillator does not provide enough motion for the control valve spring to overcome friction at cranking speed.

Since it works fine with the engine running, I would not worry about it.

In any event, you should fully depress the clutch when cranking the engine to unload the starter.

Thanks Dean, We just bought the tractor and changed the fluid and it was very milky (we think water) anyway it helped the action of lift but it will still creep up with lever in down position. We may check out what you said about the control valve. It just makes it annoying to hook up to equipment.

Dean,
Yes I agree about releasing the clutch pedal when starting the engine.
For anyone unsure why;
Pressing the clutch pedal effectively pusses the crankshaft forward against the thrust washers in the rear crank journal (most MF's). This effectively makes the engine harder for the starter to turn. In addition to that, if the tractor has been standing for any period of time the initial turning might be done with no oil to lubricate the thrust bearings leading to quicker wear.
As long as your safety switch on the hi-Lo gear lever is working there is no need to press the clutch.
