Do you have a TEA-20 with the Standard engine? If you have a solenoid, you have a non-OEM starter circuit. Are you sure that the starter is getting power when you actuate the solenoid? You can bypass the solenoid and directly hookup the starter with jumper cables to the battery. If it rotates the engine, than the problem is the solenoid internal contacts (arced or burned) or the cables betwen the battery and the solenoid and the solenoid and the starter. The cables can have corrosion on them at the battery terminals, the ground can be loose or corroded, the cables maybe too small in diameter(should have 00 cables with a 6V system.) or the cables may have a corrosion in the terminal or within the insulated sheath. The starter is grounded through the case where it attaches to the block so make sure there is good contact there. If it doesn"t rotate with a jump directly from the battery, the starter can be shot,or the starter drive can be jammed. If it"s jammed, sometimes loosening the starter hold down bolts will free it up. If it isn"t jammed then you might want to take it to an auto parts store or an auto electric shop where they can test it. Sometimes the ring gear teeth are dinged up. Take a file to them and smooth them up. Some time the starter drive fails and when you attempt a start, the you"ll hear a whirring noise and the engine doen"t rotate. The fix is to replace ths starter drive. Sometimes,(on some of the very early machines) the ring gear comes off the flywheel due to a design error that was supposedly fixed but may not have gotten on your machine. (I had this problem.)it jammed the ring gear between the bell housing and the flywheel and the starter just whirred because there were no ring gear teeth to engage. It felt like a "seized" engine but the flywheel was seized by the ring being jammed between the it and the bell housing. You say the engine is "seized". Did the oil pressure go to zero or the engine overheat? If not then it"s likely not seized. Have you tried rotating it by putting a wrench on the crankshaft bolt?(Pull the plugs to make this easier.) Thats all I can think of based on your limited description of the problem. I tried to go from the most likely to the worst case. You"ll have to systematically do some diagnostics as I have outlined to get at the root cause of your problem. Get back to the forum if you have any questions.
