I'm looking at a 1974 MF150 Diesel for sale at a local dealer. It has a GB700 Jobmaster loader which is hooked up to the tractor hydraulics, not a front mounted pump. The hydraulic system does not work therefore the loader can't be raised. The PTO also doesn't work, they claim because the PTO operates off the hydraulic system. The day I looked at it, the supposedly excellent running diesel engine wouldn't start, battery was completely dead. It wouldn't crank. The tractor has been sitting at the dealer for about seven months and is in rough overall shape.
The biggest cost will be to get the hydraulics completely rebuilt. Anyone have any idea what it would cost? I've rebuilt car engines before but never worked on tractors to this extent. At this point the price of the tractor is at $2500. If the price seems reasonable and I get the tractor. Manuals and Big Deans CD will be first on my list.

You say the PTO operates off the hydraulic system. That make me think this tractor has Indepenent PTO. Since neither the PTO or hydraulics are working, my first thought is that the splines are shot where the outer transmission input shaft mates to the hub on the back of the clutch assembly.
