135 died- won't start

I'm writing this and hope to get some ideas from you as I search the archives and deans disk and try my own solutions.

Perkins gas 135 had for 5 months w/ no problems. Started fine in 25F weather yesterday and I took off to get some wood. After a minute or so, it died and would not restart. I did get one pop after letting it sit for a while and retrying. I had gas into the carb, but nothing out the drain plug. I got it pushed into the barn and let it set over night. I tried it this morning and got 1 pop but no start. I removed the carb drain plug and no gas. I tapped the carb and got a fair stream of gas to come out, but it still will not start. Thinking maybe some ice in the carb, I have a heat lamp on it, but it hasn't helped so far. I put some starting fluid into the carb throat but didn't get a hit. This 135 has a MF32 loader on it and it's hard to get to the carb and the distributor. I've pulled the coil wire at the coil and have spark there as I turn it over. I can only get to the plugs if I pull the gas tank, which I'm about ready to do. Thanks for any suggestions. I'll let you know if I have any success.

If you have to do it again, instead replacing the tank to run it, use a soda pop bottle full of gas with a hose to the carb inlet line. hold it above the level of the carb (wire it to the steering wheel or a part of the loader frame). You can run it for awhile on a liter of fuel.

I finally got it to run on starter fluid through the carb. Took the carb off and cleaned all the jets and cleaned the fuel filters (one at the tank shut off had some real gunk in it. After 2 carb removals, and about 1/2 doz tank lift offs I got it together and it's purrin' like a big mean kitten. Gots to watch my fuel I guess. Thanks for the help. Steve

if you sprayed ether directly into carb opening and it would not run, sure looks like you have ignition problems, that is my test for fuel or ignition problems

BUT you should have a good flow out of the carb base, might have multiple problems

try lots of SeaFoam in the gas tank first thing then work on the carb until you get good flow out the base, might be as simple as plugged gas cap

points might be other problem, with the loader in the way and nice cold day, I do not envy you

pulled the spark plugs. Not flooded. Nice grey/brown ash on plugs . No fuel getting to cylinders. Carb is next.
Thanks
Steve

as long as you have the plugs out, I would spray just a hint of ether down the plug hole (I love starting fluid, best fun since hot babes)

if you have good spark, engine should take right off and spin until ether is gone, might ping a bit if you overdo it, overdose not good for pistons but it will verify good spark and keep you looking on correct side of the engine
