We used to run 10W-30 in ours, but now we don't bother with the extra case of oil and run the same 15w-40 as the rest of our girls. A little thicker in the winter, but no problems the last 3 or 4 years we've been running the 15w.

We don't bother buying the expensinve stuff everybody raves about either. We buy it in 35 or 55 gallon drums from the dealer. Just our way to K.I.S.S.(Keep It Simple Stupid)

Agree with Aaron. Shell Rotella 15W40, Mobil Delvac 1300 15W40, or Chevron Delo 15W40. If you want synthetic, then Mobil One 5W40 Diesel. Tom

I think most folks are running the diesel grades in equipment these days. I cetainly am. The feds removed the zinc additives to protect flat tappet camshafts in 1999 and the diesel oils are the only place to get 'em. The freshly built G176 continental in my 65 seeems to like 15w-40 Rotella. Carries about 34 psi oil pressure when cold. There may or may not be a requirement for the zinc additive at our low valvespring pressures, but at $869 for a rebuild kit and $220 for a cam, I can use the insurance. Hope this helps,

Aaron
