Steve, the logical place to start is to read the tractor plate. What does it say? What is the complete serial number? Would be a lot easier than taking all those pictures. You can compare id plate info to tractortips dot com, and your MF dealer, or info at left at this site. Should be able to remove all doubt. Tom

It has both the flat top fenders and suspension seat, so I'd say 245. It has turf tires so if it was yellow would have been an MF20C turf. MF made them for Jacobsen as the G20. Puddingsworld has some info on MF200 series tractors. Dave

Steve, Ya need to get rid of that mysterious POS by selling it to me, cheaply!!!!! ;-) We have a 1978 and a 1980? 245 diesel. One has 6 speed, other 8 speed, both have the clamshell fenders, both bought new, both have straight front axles(not "really" swept back). I"ve never been close enough to get details on the 230. Here"s what I see: The clutch/brake pedals look much different than ours, maybe an older model than "78 or newer than "80. The seat is like the 255(have one of those too), both 245"s have the old 135 type pan seat with backrest. The power steering cylinder is like our 245"s;-( Engine is unremarkable , "cept for the snazzy oil filler cap. Rear axle/3ph also unremarkable. Flat fenders were an option on 245"s. Didn"t the 230 have "two" steering cylinders, one each side?!? Could this be a 235 if it"s not a 245? My guess is 245. Sorry I couldn"t help ya more.

235 could be ruled out by serial number(only made a couple of years) but I think they had different power steering that caused a lot of problems. Dave

tractortips says that te 245 could come with the 6 speed too. is the front axle different on the 230. something about a swept back axle?

If the data sites are right, the 230 has 3 speed tranny with high/low, the 245 is 4 speed with high/low.

My 246 has clamshell fenders.

If it has flat top fenders and/or a suspension seat, it's most likely a 245. They are pretty much the same thing so a picture might help. Dave
