Cliff if your mach. is like mine your pto only turns when you have your foot on the forward or reverse peddle the tractor does not have to be in gear but the peddle has to be down, also the pto is going to turn in which ever direction you have the peddle pushed forward or backward,so on most any equipment it is going to be very hard to use.

Sorry Les
Once you get a hoe, it would be hard to do without it. Do you know anything about this pto issue? Cliff

I'm not sure if you have an instant reverse transmission. I didn't think you could get a PTO with instant reverse because it turns backwards in reverse and could really wreck an implement. Does your tractor have ground speed PTO and engine PTO? Ground speed only turns when you're moving. Not good for a rotavator. Someone else can probably help you more. Dave

Thanks for the reply Dave.It is a ground speed pto,and it does turn backwards in reverse. There are no lift arms on the machine, but I was going to put an external 3 pt lift that a friend gave me off of an old international on.I see nothing that would indicate that it is also an engine pto.It didn,t occur to me that I could wreck an implement(I have a rotovator and mower). I've never heard of a tractor with just ground speed PTO. See if the lever to engage it goes on the other side of neutral. That's how they usually work. Ground speed-neutral-engine speed. If it does, it should keep turning with the clutch half way down and stop when the clutch is fully depressed. That would mean it has a live PTO. See if the PTO reverses when you switch from forward to reverse. If you hook up your rotavator always turn the PTO on and off with the tiller out of the ground. I've heard of broken PTO shafts from not doing this. Dave
