The steering on our FE 35 has seen better days. A while ago we hit a stump with the right front wheel and ever since then that wheel seems to lock hard in one direction or the other when you turn. Also quite a lot of play in the steering that needs to be fixed too.

Does anyone know is this a hard job to fix ? We have no manuals to go by. Actually we haven't even been able to get the steering wheel off :)

Anyone with any ideas please reply.

Cheers,

Hello Grant -

There's a stop on the bottom of the axle castings which prevents the wheels fron turning too far.

We broke one off under circumstances similar to yours, with similar results. Have a look - a tab about 3 fingers wide, projects down 1/2" or so below the thrust bearing bell at the bottom inside of each axle.

Steering may be a loose bearing. Does the steering wheel move up and down when rotated left/right? Bearing is like a bike front wheel, adjusted on UK models by a nut/lock nut combination, just under the steering wheel, but it has to come off first to get at the adjustment.

We generally destroy the original wheel in the process - usually need replacement anyway. New ones are reasonable, however - $50-$60 Cdn. Check Bare-Co dealers:

Good luck.
