This tractor has been sitting outside for many years.Hydraulic lifts would go up as soon as you start the tractor,no matter where the position lever was at.Would have to wait hours before it would go back down.I drained rear grease and it was mostly water and gunk.I put new shifter boots on it and added new 90 wt.oil.Now the lifts will not go up at all, except when you give tractor full throttle and they will slowly rise but with no strength.I need some advice. Thanks!

Hello,
More than an inch or so of water in the bottom of the casing will cause serious problems. I suspect that the control valve in the pump is sticking. I would put this at the head of the list of possibilities.
90 oil is too heavy for the transmission and particularly if you live in a cold climate. In the UK it would be a 'tractor universal' grade.
Drain the transmission to the level of the bottom bolt on the round side cover on the RHS of the rear transmission case. Remove the cover. Inside you will see a lever coming up from below. This is the pump lever and moves the control valve to 'pumping', 'neutral' and 'discharge'.
positions. With the 3pt in the down position operate the quadrant control lever. If the pump valve is free it should follow the movement of the levers from above. If it won't move or the two loose contact then that is a pointer as to where the problem is. Other problems are likely to be rusted/seized piston rings, rusted pump bores, rusted/seized poppet valves and a blocked filter.
Please let us know how you get on.

I had similar problems with my TO35. The water was the start of my troubles. When it freezes it breaks things. I had a seized pump piston and I think it was cracked also. It has been a few years now. Make sure and keep the boots on the shifters fresh as they keep the water out. Get a manual and take it apart and repair was is broke. It's not that bad of a job and a great learning experience. Good Luck, Doug
