Hi All,
I am having a problem getting the last bolt off to remove the starter motor. It's the bolt between the block and the starter. I need leprechaun fingers or some special tool. Any tips or tricks??

TIA

Michael

On my 65 I use a ratchet with a real long extension and go at it from the front of the starter motor, passing the extension between the motor housing, solenoid and the block.

Michael,

Man do I know what you're going through!

I tried this, I tried that, I even heated up a cheap open-end wrench, bent it to about a 45-degree angle AND ground off a good chunk of the metal on one side - all in a futile effort to make that puppy fit!

What I finally did to get it was remove the solenoid from atop the starter, disconnected the throttle and governor linkages (for more room, every little bit is precious...) and got at it straight-on with a socket and about a six-inch extension.

If that works, you can send me $1,000 as partial compensation (at about $5 an hour...) for the time it took me to figure out how to get that puppy off!

Just kidding - good luck!

Cheers,
Paul
