I"m shopping for Up-front hydraulic pump for MF 1100. Worthington has one for $1000.00 I need the MF part # to do search on the web. Sterring is erratic & filter up front has been changed twice without success.

I bought an old 1100 with a terrible noise in the transmission which went silent when you would pull up on the hydraulic relief pin on the floor board. Fearing the worst and not wanting to split the tractor without some investigation I pulled the top of the center casting and pulled out the aluminum Cessna charge pump. On inspection I found that it had eaten one of the tiny snap rings which were supposed to hold the front pump rotor to the shaft. So the drive gear was running in and out about a half an inch and the inside of the pump was all eaten up. I got a new cast iron pump from Gap tractor parts in Cranfils Gap Tx. for a very reasonable price. They also had a usable bottom filter screen since mine had been eaten up by corrosion and neglect. I had intended to put a cow magnet in with the clean screen but I never got around to getting one before it went back together. Now my relief valve in the top casting squacks until the oil warms up. One of the pictures in the 1100 manual is of a special tool they made to get the front pump out of the tractor because it's so heavy.

My 2 cents worth is besides all the other good tips from other writers, make sure to check and clean the bottom filter in the bottom of the transmission. I wonder why no one has come up with a bolt on plate which would alow the installation of a good spin on filter for the inlet of the hydraulic oil. seems like they could stop a whole lot of problems with a better prefilter.

Tony, we have a mf 1100 that had same symptons as yours we pulled the charge pump and it was ok our trouble was the priority valve had become loose we tightned the valve and the flow and pressure came back withen range we found out later that the charge pump and the radical pump had been replaced and the stop wire was left off the valve and it worked loose we spent several hard hours to pull the pump as we had a cab on and as stated was a pain lol hope this helps

I just changed the main front pump on my 1135. First thing to do before anything is get a flow/pressure meter and check the flow and pressure at the rear selective control couplers. You should have about 2400psi relief at any throttle, and about 20 gpm at about 1800-2000 rpm. The charge pump is seldom at fault, so be careful before changing it. You can get a front pump from Hy-Capacity Inc. for about as reasonable as it gets usually. These can be a pain to diagnose, but flow/pressure test is 1st thing to do. Hope this helps you out.

Had the same issue on an 1130. It was the charge pump under the back platform. The rotary pump in the nose can go out, but not as often as the rear pump. There is a screen in the transmission sump would be another place to look. That is not too bad to clean, usually a bunch of metal flakes inside that one.

If I remember right, to test the charger pump. You must open up platform & connect Pressure gauge to an out-put line from the Charger?

Thankfully no Cab to deal with. I need to track down a diagram of the charger pump then come back on this board with question concerning where to hook pressure gauge. Will need to purchase pipe fittings to connect gauge.
I wish the MF hydraulics were as dependable as the Perkins engine. We were always conscientious about servicing our MF tractors but I think the hyds were their weak point. This tractor was purchased new and if I had it to do over again I would have serviced the hyd system at half the number of hours recommended maybe that would have headed off problems. The MF 180 purchased new had weak hyds especially the 3pt and the 1100's never would hold their 3pt load up no matter how small after the motor was turned off.

Make sure you have plenty of presuure and flow at the rear outlets before taking out front pump. A quick test in the back is very simple versus taking the front end loose to remove that pump only to reinstall and have the same problem. Around 2000psi and 5 gals into a bucket in 30 seconds should be plenty to rule out a front pump. The steering has it's own motor and there is also a prioity valve that is lighter to remove if flow is ok.

If thats what is wrong, you can buy a kit to rebuild it, not munch to it. Takeing the pump out is the only hard part.

I would like to know where you can get a kit to rebuild the front pump as I have the same problem.

Be sure of what is wrong before you buy a hyd pump. I think it has a charge pump on it that will cause that problem as well.
