I have a Massey Ferguson 35. Tractor usually starts right up. When I tried it on the weekend it would not even turn over. H-L lever in S - key turned to I - press start button - nothing happens...battery was working fine a month ago.
Any ideas as to what is wrong?

A good way to check your battery's condition is to measure the battery's electrolyte with a hydrometer. It should have a reading around 1.250
or better and all cells should be close to one another. Hal

Make sure you have the tractor in neutral when shorting across that starter solenoid as Dave suggested. Hal

Hi,
Just in front of the steering box on the right hand side you will see two wires going to a switch. On the 35 they will probably be held in with screws so you will need a very short screwdriver. Remove the wires and join them together. Try starting. Failure of the start safety switch is quite common. If it is OK reconnect the wires otherwise you will be able to start in gear.
You do not say whether you have a diesel or petrol.
If diesel, remove the small push-on wire at the starter solenoid. Using a screwdriver or similar bridge from the main battery lead terminal to the solenoid terminal. If it starts you have a problem upstream of the starter. If it does not and assuming your battery and connections are OK, you have a starter problem.
Please come back if you need any more help.
