I was just wondering if the rear main engine seal is a rope or rubber seal on the G176. If it's the rope, how prone are they to leaking?

Thanks David for the information.

Are all G176 the rope type?

Hi,
I don't know. I have no info on that. Don't even know if there are any in the UK.

Hi,
Provided that they are fitted correctly the rope seal type will give a very good life. However I would suggest that you fit only genuine MF rope seals. We have had an instance recently where a seal supplied by a non-gen supplier was fitted.
When in place the engine was extremely tight to turn. After about 10 hours it started to leak. The genuine seals are flexible and can be compressed a little between the fingers. The non-gen ones whilst they look the same are made of a different material with little flexibility or compression.
I certainly won't be fitting non-gen again.
