Would someone please explain the operation of an isolator valve on a MF 150. I understand that they have three ports and are used for single action cylinders and replace the small cover on the lift cover. Is it posible to HOLD the lift arms in a mid-way position and use the isolator to operate a cylinder?

Thanks in advance, Tom

Hello Tom,
On the original tractor oil is pumped up the stack pipe from the pump. It enters an oil way in the hydraulic cover and is sent to the main lift cylinder.
When an isolating valve is fitted the oil goes from the pipe into the valve where it can be diverted to go to the lift cylinder, or external ports to supply a trailer tipping pipe or front end loader for example. So, in short, oil is directed where you wish it to go.
As to locking the lift arms, this is possible. When an external source is selected, oil is prevented from running back to the pump, hence the arms can be 'locked' in any position. However, the efficiency of this lock is only as good as the condition of the piston, rings and lift cylinder and any internal leakages in the islating valve.
