I have a '67 MF 165 that I am considering putting a front end loader on for loading hay. I am planning on adding another hydraulic pump for the loader. What kind of advice or experiences are out there concerning either (A) an internal auxillary pump, or (B) a front mounted pump. The labor to install is not a big issue to me because the hydraulic lift cover is coming off and the tractor will be split for repairs anyway.

Curt my advice would be go with the front pump. I think you would be much better satisfied with how your loader works I have mounted a lot of loaders on the Massey tractors using a front pump, the factory auxiliary & the three point hydraulics

Dean, do you have any specifics on the best model of front mount pump to use, where to get it, and any installation tricks to watch for. I have been using a loader on my MF65 with the internal 3-point pump and am getting tired of having to pour myself a coffee while waiting for the loader to lift.

Curt, I inherited an MF 135 gas with my farm last year and had a loader installed by a MF dealer. I shopped around a bit and a Woods was about the same as the MF232 loader that I had installed. Cost about $4100 labor and all which isn't cheap but the work was great. Only uses the internal pump on Constant Pumping and a simple manual valve to switch over from the 3-point. It has remarkable lifting force and reasonable speed (I'm not loading for a living!). Unless you must have both your 3-point and loader operating at the same time, you can go without the front pump. At times I can't believe I put on a loader worth more than the tractor itself but the thing has been a dream for some major stone hauling, grading and soil moving.
