I'm a newbie with tractors, but I need one for light work around this place I just bought. A couple people recommended a 35 - I am in central WA apple/pear/cherry orchard area and there are quite a few available in my price range. Anyway, I ended up with a yellow 135 diesel which I was later told is an industrial model - for whatever that is worth.(?) I runs good and starts easily except now that the temps have dropped to the 20s (highs) it sometimes needs a jump. I noticed a plug that looks like a block heater (round with 3 male ends protruding, one larger than the others) - can anyone ID this type of heater so I can get the correct cord for it? I also want to get a front loader for it - do I need to get a different pump? Or can I work one off the present pump used for the 3pt? Someone suggested a pto pump to drive the loader - is that a good idea? Expensive? Or do I need to look for a pump that is driven off the engine crank? The guy I bought the tractor from said it belonged to his dad but they tore out the orchards. He kept 3 other 135s and a 35 because they all had the crank-driven pumps on them. He did throw in a big set of rear mount forks with a 6-7 extension mast and side-shift, but I don't think I can use them without a different hydraulic pump, either. They will be useful when I start building my house in the spring. I gave $2500 for the tractor and forks - seems a good deal compared to the other tractors I was looking at. Any suggestions? Anything I should look out for? Thanks for the education. Pat L.

Pat, That tractor is an excellent starter.First
make sure the battery is full size and in good
condition. Then as mentioned the intake manifold
has a plug with a fuel line attached. That is the
heater for cold weather starts. Make sure it gets
hot when key turned backward. The block heater
cord is a tough one. There were diff ones sold by
MF thru parts and they kept changing. We used to
stock them all and just match up for a customer.
Poss an auto parts can match,or almost as cheap
to replace heater with cord. Oh, be sure the starter is good cond and spins full speed. Chuck

You got a good tractor for a great price. There is lots of info in the archives concerning 135's and all smaller MF tractors. They are all basically the same. About the only main difference between your tractor and a 135 is the front axle and possibly the transmission. Your tractor might have thermo-start for colder weather. You turn the key backwards part way to engage a heater that heats a small amount of fuel in the intake manifold, which makes for easier starting. If it does have it, you can usually here it hissing slightly within a few seconds. It can be used for 20 seconds or even longer for colder days. An engine heater is a good idea as well, as it will help start the tractor when it's really cold and make it easier on the starter and engine itself. Dave

The existing linkage pump will work the fork lift or a loader, but it will be slow.
