Hi I have a 1951 Massey Harris Pony that has the hydarulic system on it.I installed a Western six and 1/2 foot Snow plow on the front of the Tractor. I am trying to lift the plow using the lift arms located in front of the rear wheels. It wiil not lift it. Am i expecting too much from the hydarulic system? Or could it be a bad pump, cylinder, valve. I am not sure of the max. weight capacity of the tractor or the hydarulic system. If someone could point me in the right direction it would be vary helpful. If it a faulty part of the hydarulic system is there a sourse for parts. I work in a maintenance department and can have a coworker who rebuilds hydarulic pumps, cylinders ect.help me as i have no backround doing that type of repairs. I don't think it will be too hard since i have a tolerence chart from the operating and servicing instruction for the Pony. Thanks Dave

I have a 6 1/2 ft plow on mine and it lifts it just fine. Do you have the original lift arms for the plow frame or are you trying to lift from the short arms on the tractor? If your using the short arms thats your problem. You need the arms for the plow frame.
In the implement photo section i posted some hookups for the plow.
It's under massey harris snow plow hookup.

David,
Yea it sounds that you may be asking a little too much out of the ol girl. The Ponys have a 1,000 pound lift capacity. Im not sure how much your plow would weigh, but Im guessing it would be more then the factory Pony plow. Plus you got to think of the leverage of the plow hanging out in front. Good Luck!

I wonder if that might not be the case. I guess i will hve to redesign this. I have alot of time in the plow, tractor. I replaced the face of the plow with stainles steel, bead blasted the frame , panited the skeleton to match the wheels.Last Winter i had the tractor tore down to replace the brake bands they got soaked in greese. I had to replace the the seals all the bearings. the axiles had a groove cut in them from the leather seal. So i tig welded it and turned it down on the lathe and one thing led to another so bead blasted what the i could and cleaned sanded and painted everything all original . The old pony looks great. What a great tractor it is one year younger than me i wish i was in as good of shape as it after all the years of work it has done. 56 years how many things can you think of that still work after that long? I think it had a hard life and still gets the job done. Sorry for rambling on about the tractor . THANKS FOR YOUR HELP HAVE A GRAT DAY DAVE

Thanks for the information. I looked at that photo . From what i see it 1s it is a matter of leverage. To get the most out of the limited amount of hydarulic lifting compacity on the Pony. I am trying a new route. I went out and bought two 160# garage door springs and am going to use them with a pulley mounted on the end of the implement shaft behind the front alxe by drilling and taping it to accept the bolt that came with the 4"cable pully for garage doors. the idea i came with was to counter act the weight the same way that a heavy garage door is made to operate. I started to rig this up tonight but stoped the STEELERS play on Monday Night Football I am a big fan. I plan to run a cable through the center of the spring for safety. I will let you know how it turns out. THANKS Dave

David,
I don't care that you ramble about your tractor. Thats what most of us do on this forum anyway! HaHa!!
Yea,your Pony sounds kind of like what my was. From the outside it was in real good shape, but on the inside there were a few issues..To make along story short its all back and fixed and I just love the little thing. My biggest problem was with the clutch. I had a heck of a time getting the bugs worked out..I had to split that tractor 13 times and put it back together before it was right. I was about ready to give up! However I did learn alot from that and it won't ever happen again.
I hope you can get your plow working. I don't think there is any kind of way you can test the pressure on the hydralic system or not. You may want to ask around about that. Its worth a shot. I don't see how you could, but Im no expert. Good Luck!
