Get you a set of LP pistons (flat tops and higher compression) and burn gasoline on top of them. I bought a brand new set of 4 pistons in 1999 and paid $24.50 a piece for them. I restored a MF50LP. Try this, Montes Equipment, 312-225-2660. Ask for Jerry Moons. They bought the surplus parts when Continental went out of business is what I here.

You'd be MUCH better getting a MF 65. It would have about 15 more horses, be heavier, and yet be of the same configuration as your MF 50 and only slightly more bulky. I'm well experienced with a MF 65 and consider it to be the head of its class in the 45-50 pto. hp. range. It is second to nothing in the 3-4 plow tractors all makes and models considered. Mr. Bob

Well...you might consider finding a front axle casting from a MF50 that had a 3 cyl Perkins diesel and using the 3 cyl Perkins gas engine they had a few more ponies. In any event as has been said you would be further ahead to find a larger machine, maybe a MF65 with a MK2 direct injected diesel engine. Otherwise you are going to spend more money that you need to, IMHO...Gary

I'm sure someone could do it but you'ld run into two major problems. 1. It would cost a lot of money 2. It would be constantly needing repairs, if it didn't blow up, which would make it cost even more money. You would be much better off and ahead just getting a larger tractor. Dave

Its possible that the crank, pistons, rods, and sleeves from a Z-145 will fit giving more stroke and bore. Won't gain ten hp though. According to my I&T manual the MF-135 changed by only 0.9 HP making those changes between the Special (with Z-134) and the Deluxe (with Z-145) from Nebraska tractor tests. And since the Special and Deluxe have different part numbers on their blocks its not certain that the Z-145 parts will fit the Z-134 block.

To get 10 HP, you need a third more cubic inches, or a lot faster crankshaft speed (but the cranshaft isn't balanced for high speed), and getting more cubic inches means custom pistons and sleeves, custom stroked crank, and hand made rods. Suitable only for short periods off operation, like pulling and then you will be so traction limited you won't be able to take advantage of the extra power.

The easy solution is to trade for a MF-65 or MF-165 or reduce the size of your horsepower demanding implement.

Hi,
I think that you are looking for the impossible here. The engine block has a set distance between the centr-line of the crank and face of the block so increasing the stroke is out. You may gain a little by having the head skimmed to its maximum to raise the compression ratio. A different carburettor may also work a little. A turbocharger might be fitted which would give 10 to 15 HP but the engine has to be in almost new condition to cope with the stresses and temperatures imposed by it.
Why not buy a larger tractor and you'll know what you've got.
