My MF35 Deluxe didn"t have a cable.Trying to install a cable I have been scouring the manuals for the connection from the meter. It"s been pointed out that it should connect to the generator. I haven"t been able to find the connection. Any info. is appreciated.

HL:

Contintneal gas or Perkins diesel?

The gassers came from the factory with a generator including a tach drive on the back end frame. Many of these generators have been replaced with generators without the tach drive. you cannot connect your tach cable unless you have the correct generator.

The tach cable connects to a drive connection from the camshaft on the back of the Perkins diesel engine.

Hey Dean, hope all is well. Is there something special about the connection on the back of that cam, or does it just accept a squared off cable? I've just replaced the tractor meter and cable on my 65, and already the cable end's chewed up. I lubed the cable real good, and it was turning free. This is the second cable I'm on now.

I'm not sure, Farmer.

I had 2 35s with Perkins duesel engines, and replaced the tach and cable on both.

One was a US version and everything worked fine.

The other was an FE-35 English version.

Apparently, it used a different cable with an end other than the common square one. My dealer could not find a proper cable for it, nor could I.

It did appear to have a different "adapter" in the back of the camshaft. I tried to remove it but it was stubborn and I gave up rather that twist it off.

I suspect that it is designed for the "keyed" type of cable end used on 50s vintage Fords.

Good luck with your 65.

That pegs it, then. Mine's an English 65 with a Perkins AD192. Might have to try brazing a key on a standard cable.
Thanks!
