I cannot diengage the secondary clutch on this tractor. The only adjustment that I find is the external adjustment. Is there any internal adjustment or do I need to replace the clutch? If replacement is in order are there any tricks to this or anything that I need to watch out for when I split the tractor and remove the clutch? I will have the clutch rebuilt so I am not to worried about the disassembly of the clutch shen it is removed.

Hi there

Yes, there's a secondary clutch adjustment inside the clutch. It has to be correct to get the clutch working properly.

Then, you don't say how this happened. If the problem got worse over the time I would say you should rebiuld the clutch.
But if the tractor was stored for a while and then had the problem when started up I would guess the secondary clutch plate was stuck on the axle shaft from the transmission. Or rusted surfaces somewhere.

Have you tried to lift the hydraulics up with a heavy load, as much as to the opening of the pressure release valve on the hydraulic pump with the clutch pedal depressed to the bottom. This may get the clutch loose.

Or you may open the cover under the clutch house, 4 bolts, and then try to look up there with a flashlight having someone else pressing the clutch pedal..... remember the brakes unless you want to increase your height.....

If splitting the tractor I would use a 2x8 of wood, or several of them. Put them under the tractor put grease on top of it so the tractor rest on it. Then remove the bolts and just roll the rear or front end away.

I don't want to tell you settings for the clutch, cause if you have a US version of the tractor it may have a different clutch than UK versions.

If you have the UK version I can provide you with all the info you need from my shop manual.

there is an access cover under the clutch housing. they tell you that you can't adjust after the initial adjustment when installing the clutches. I adjusted the fingers and have been using it for several years. I do check that the disk has material left and the rivets are not exposed. adjust one finger at a time. rotate the engine until the finger is accessable (down). Be sure that you have a dual clutch model. serail number should be "M" in 3rd position. mine is SDM for utility, Standard diesel, multi clutch. yours should be xNM for ???, Perkins diesel, multi clutch. I don't recall the exact clearance, should be in the manual, but think its around 20 thousanths.

Good luck! Rob
