Just wondering if there was an easier way to add hydraulic fluid to my tractor. It seems to take forever just to get an once to go in. I need to replace a hydraulic cylinder and am worried it will take forever to top up the fluid.
Any help is sure appreciated.
Thanks
Jody

Jody:

When filling your 35 be advised that it takes a long time (hours if cold) for the oil levels to equalize between the transmission cavity where the fill plug is located and the hydraulic cavity where the dipstick is. This is because the oil must run through bearings around shafts between the cavities.

As a result it is very easy to overfill your system if you are in a hurry.

I suggest adding a little, checking it tomorrow, repeating, etc.

Thanks fore your help. I was not filling it but was using another plug about 7/8". I will tonight for the 2-1/2" plug. That should make a big difference.

Yea you got it. The fill plug is up by the shifter on the left side.

The warning about over filling is does need to be watched.

Sounds like you are right Don. There is a plug beside the shifter under the key. It should have a 1 1/16 hex. The plug is about 2-2 1/2 inches in diameter. Add til 1 gallon low, then run tractor to disperse/warm up the fluid. Shut down, then add the last gallon to avoid overfilling.

Hope this Helps,

Aaron

Thanks for confirming that for me. We have a 165 and 285, just wasn't sure if the older models were filled in the same spot or not. The 165 is the oldest Massey we've hed on the farm.

Not 100% sure on the older massey's like that, but there should be a plug next to the shifter where you add. Has a hex on it where you grab it with a wrench.

Not sure where you were trying to add.
