MF 135 Carb Issue

My friend has a 1964 MF 135, with Z145 gas engine. Each time we push the fuel lever to the idle position the engine stops running. I have adjusted the carb stop adjustment in all the way but it still will not hold the butterfly shaft open enough for the tractor to run at a slow idle.

We just open the fuel lever enough to to keep it running. I have not tried adjusting the idle air fuel adjustment.

Old tractor starts and runs good for a tractor that has seen very little maintenance during its life time.

Any ideas what I can do to get the tractor to idle properly?

If you have a FAT, BLUISH-WHITE SPARK, then try adjusting the carb mixture screws. (Remember the idle mixture screw controls idle air so screwing it IN makes the mixture richer.)If you don"t have a FAT, BLUISH-WHITE SPARK, find out why and fix it, then adjust the carb. You might also check the timing and make sure the the centrifugal advance is working correctly.

if this tractor has been unloved for some time, please take the time to make sure everything else is AOK bfore fiddling with the carb

stuff like good plugs and points and air cleaner, good connections on ignition system and battery, good fuel flow of burnable gas to the carb, no mouse nests clogging stuff up, maybe even change that old black oil

they are not making these great tractors anymore so we have to take good care of the ones they did make

You need to adjust the idle mixture.

will give it a try, just was concerned since it was running ok that I might end up doing a carb rebuild.

He did use one can of seafoam in tractor and that helped the overall running of the tractor.
Thanks,
