What is the best way to get rid of the multi-power. We have the trans. out right now. Will we need a different trans., or can we just replace gears and/or shafts? It never has worked right. Any suggestions would be appreciated. THANKS!

The multi-power can be converted to a regular six speed transmission, without buying any expensive gears etc. You just have to remove the bottom countershaft and the two gears that are on it. You cut the gear teeth off of the front gear and weld the hub of it to the gear behind it. you also discard the spring and the small sprag type gear that is in between the two larger gears. Put the gear and the hub that you cut the teeth off of onto the shaft(to keep them lined up so you can get them back on the shaft later) and clamp together and weld the two together.I always turn the front gear upside down to cut the teeth off, you can see more clearly where you are cutting. I have converted quite a few, it is a little work but worth it considering a used transmission is around $700. Hope this helps.

The Massey 8 speed trans is very good. I have 2 of the 175's. One has the 8 speed and the other the 6-Multipower. The multi tractor has been locked in constant high range by a previous owner. I have been told that this can be done by adding 4 extra bolts in the transmission, but how they do it, I don't know. David.
