I have an 1100D that is a great running tractor, but every once in a while while driving down the road wide open in road gear it will quit running and the only way to get it to start is to bleed the fuel system. The fuel tank was full. Any ideas why it does this? The first time it happened, I replaced the fuel filters, but it has done it a couple more times. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I thought I had been pretty crafty by putting a new plastic see thru in line filter on the old 1100 I got. The fuel strainer in the tank was toast so it wasn't catching anything. After running several hours plowing at 3/4 throttle it lost power and eventually died. I examined the usual suspects and found that the paper element in the new plastic filter had collapsed from being wet with water and plugged with trash. Oh how crafty I was. I put on another plastic filter and after much bleeding and purging off I went.

Welllll! after the 5th verse of this song I decided that maybe I wasn't as crafty as I had previously thought and I got rid of the plastic filter as I could see that my sediment bowl was doing it's job and the water separator was doing it's job. Both were full of crap which I would drain out as needed. If I were going to put an inline filter on now I'd put it between the lift pump and the double filters at the injector pump. If a person is getting air into the system early on check all your connections and don't rule out a rusted through spot on the pick up tube in the tank. If it is rusted or rubbed thru, take it out and patch the hole with a little brass.

had same problem and it was pick-up tube in tank. sock on bottom of pick-up had crumbled and when the machine was bouncing alot it would get trash from the bottom of the tank and plug up line. Drain and clean tanks and lines. There is a screen on the drain plug in the tank. Keep them clean and it surely won't hurt anything.

It sounds to me like it's sucking air. I would check the inlet fittings to the lift pump check the line for vibration wear (anywhere it may have came in contact with the tractor) might have a pinhole in the line.

Also check the fittings coming out of the lift pump where it connects to the filter. Then the inlet fittings to the injection pump.

At higher rpms it requires more fuel, and more suction in the line. Any fitting that has just a small leak will eventually suck in enough air to stall the tractor. It might run forever on lower rpms being that there may not be enough suction in the line to suck in any amount of air.

Just a thought

My 175 did the same thing. A couple of good places to check are the screen in the tank (where the petcock goes in), The sediment bowl, filters, fuel pump diapragms, and lines. When under load or high fuel consumption, the slightest restriction on the fuel system will cause it to pull air into the system, requiring a bleed. My problem was a dirty fuel filter and a pin hole in the pump diaphrams. Good luck.

Betcha got a check valve loose inside the lift pump.Take it apart by taking the six screws out and splitting the pump open

Does the fuel cap have a vent? Is the tank venting?
