Thanks for the help coming my way. No it does not have a 'big nut'. The impeller is on the Magneto drive shaft with a large spring pushing against the front face of the impeller. The shaft appears to run in two bushes with possibly a washer in between. I have not stripped it as I do not yet have sufficient knowledge to proceed safely. As you will all be aware mistakes on these old tractors are difficut to rectify often simply because there are so few bits available. A further question:- In view of the proximity of all the engine oil, is the clutch considered to be a wet clutch. It would certainely appear to be
Thanks again MTF

Can you send me any pictures? I have been building water pumps and torque amplifiers for 15 years and once in a while ya forget the applications and casting numbers but maybe a pictuer will trigger something.

You can try the Massey collector's web page. There are quite a few Wallis collectors.

Well My Wallis experience is on the older ones, but... Does it have a packing nut - a big nut with a space behind it. If so you wind " steam cylinder packing" in there to fill it up then grease with water pump grease. You can still buy water pump grease but they used to use a stiffer heavier grease than you get now. Packing comes on a roll and you just cut off what you need.
