I'm considering purchasing a 255 Diesel serial#9A207909. It has 2239 hrs. Can any one tell me what year tractor this is? Would like appinions on this tractor. Is the hydraulics good on this model? I need to use dual remotes. What is the HP? I need about 50HP on the PTO. It has a rops with a canopy. It has a dual valve in front of the seat. One side for one remote the other is used for the lift. Can I plumb it for a second remote? The asking price is $5500. Thanks for any advice.

As A dealer at that time I must comment that the
255 that s/n has the 203 engine. Many kits went
in (or should have) to keep the engine vibrations
from shaking the tractor apart. When the 236 eng
was introduced into the 255 it was a whole great
new model. We wish they had dealt with the engine
shaking rather than insulate the rest of the unit. The 203 was excellent but when they put it
the 255 they tried to make it something that it
wasn't. Chuck

Thank you all for your advise. I found another one 9A270917. It has the 236 engine and has dual factory remotes. They told me it was a 77 model. Your right Chuck, this engine feels much tighter.

Yes you could make it run 2 remotes. I forgot you mentioned that in my first post. Putting another control vale with 2 sets of remotes would be an easy way to do it. It would get oil from the existing remote. I have a loader on my tractor and that's how it is set up. You'ld have to make a bracket for the control valve. Some control valves are relatively small so it wouldn't be too cumbersome. A dealer could help you or a good hydraulic shop. $5500 asking price is cheap depending on the condition. Low hours and low maintenance aren't good. If everything checks out, it is a very good price. Dave

More or less, the 255 is an upgraded version of the 165. GREAT tractor. Those hours are low. I believe it"s 52 hp (pto) Is that a good price? Well, if it was for sale around here at that price, it wouldn"t sit long.

I don't know what year it is but on the later versions with the 236 engine, the injection pump can be adjusted so it has the same HP as a 265. I believe the 255 is 52 PTO HP and the 265 is 60 PTO HP. It will use more fuel if turned up though. You'ld have to check out what type of hydraulic set up it has. For the price it sounds like a steal. Hydrostatic steering is a real bonus. Dave
