Friend has a 1964, MF 135 with Z145 engine. Was going to help him change oil/air filter.

NAPA said there are two different oil filters and two different air filters listed for this tractor.

Is that possible?

Must take oil and air filter in to get correct one's. Can you believe changing oil/air filters could be that diffcult on such a small tractor.

NAPA#
Oil: #1010 he did not give me other # Air: #2076 or 2123/6297

Anyone know for sure what are the correct part #'s?

Sincerely,

Be careful with that dry air filter you get from NAPA or WIX. The last one I got they had changed the rubber seal. The "new" one had a hard seal that did not contact the bottom of the air filter can. The old one had a soft seal that did. I had to put some plastic wrap in the filter can, put some silicone on the filter, and put it together until the silicone set up. Then I removed the plastic wrap and had decent bottom seal.

My MF-135 parts book shows a single element air filter for both horizontal and vertical filter canisters for gas engines. The horizontal canister was used on tractor serial numbers 641 023 533 and later. Its MF number for the element is 1 032 762 M91.

There is a dual element vertical can filter too, used prior to 641 003 797. That has two elements 1 029 959 M91 that is listed as a tube assembly, and a filter element 1 029 945 M92.

Between those two serial number the single element was the 1 029 945 M92.

Diesels used the 1 032 762 M91 filter, but before SN 9A 105179 for 8 speeds and before 9A 108723 for 6 speeds they used a different canister without the inner element. Otherwise the diesel had the second safety element 523 419 M92.

So the gas element change with time, but there never was a two element filter for the gas engine. Only for the diesel. The 9A serial numbers came later than the 641 serial numbers.

There's no room in my horizontal filter canister for an inner filter element. Its a gas with Z-145.

Oil filter, I use a Fram C3 equivalent. My parts book shows a kit of three filters with gaskets comes under a part number 1 014 219 M92. Doesn't show a part number for a single filter.

Thanks,

Guess I expected to purchase maintenance parts simply like for my old 1957 TO-35.

You guys are correct, I must help my friend take the parts off, take them with us to purchase new maintenance parts, then record correct part numbers for future use.

Old tractor has had little maintenance, so that is why he knows almost nothing about the tractor other than how to pour gas in it.

Sincerely,

When our machines have been serviced and repaired in the shop we usually cut the top off the filter box and the cardboard sleeve off of new belts and staple them to the wall by the office so we know what to get next time we need em. T.J.

Lots of tractors have more than one filter arrangement. Once you match the filter up, right it down for quick reference. It's only an inconvenience the first time. Dave
