You seem to be the resident expert on wiring / charging systems. Quick question, from the diagrams, it appears that the ammeter should have the alternator and key switch leads on one side and lead from the starter (attached to same post on starter as battery cable) and oil pressure switch, etc on the other. The harness I bought has the lead from the starter and alternator joined together and then traveling to the ammeter. Would this cause the ammeter to not work? Any help would be most appreciated.

Only the starter should be connected to the battery side of the ammeter. Everything else, loads or charging should be connected together (loads likely through a switch or two) on the other terminal of the ammeter. You want the ammeter to show the total of all currents in and out other than the starter.

Your harness is correct. Big wire from battery to starter solenoid, smaller wire to ammeter. If its negative ground that goes to the negative terminal on the ammeter. All the rest of the electric system connects to the positive terminal on the ammeter.
