I appreciate everyone's responses so far regarding my prospective purchase of a 165. However, I'm still wondering what happens when the multi power fails. By failing I'm assuming that this means it will not engage in high any longer. Besides the fact that there will be no engine braking (or pull starting), will the tractor still function as a normal non multi power tractor with a manually engaged high-low transmission? Or, will the whole transmission lock up, spring annoying leaks and/or render the tractor useless?

Some folks say that the tractor needs to be put in MultiPower high occasionally to keep the plates wet. Mines been stuck in low for a long time, years, with no ill effect, but I suppose it's a valid theory.

The tractor will still function as a straight 6 speed, but there will not be any engine braking capability.

No matter what, do not pull start a M-P tractor,it wont start and the clutch pack doesn`t like it at all.
