My 135 - 1975 has a slight rattle in the trans. Worse the more lod on the hyd.Suggest it is the retainerpins in the pump. Anything I can do or should I live with this ? - it has been there for 1500 hrs. and anything else works great.

Hi Frema,
It is not uncommon for hydraulic systems to 'rattle' under heavy load or blow-off. If it is a bad 'clank' it would be worth draining the oil and removing the right hand side cover. Feel inside for the front of the pump. It is possible that where the pump dowel pins fit into the pump body is broken. This will allow the pump to knock against the casing. If this is the case the front plate of the pump will need to be replaced.
Please come back if I can help any more.

Hi and thanks for the advice. In the near future I will do the winterservice and drain and check the filter/strainer even the oil is relatively new and looks fine. Would it be an idea to take out the dowels and renew - I think they could be worn or flattened in the up-down direction - I had the pump taken out some years ago to check this but found nothing I meant to be exessive wear but did not check if pump could "seesaw" a little. Any idea how much the "allowance" ?. Would there be any couplers that could be worn?.

Hi,
Removing the dowel will really only show you the wear on the pin. The pump plate may still be broken. On a new tractor the amount of circular movement would have been zero. In 30 years we have never had one with a worn coupler.

I pulled the oil strainer in the bottom of my 1100 and found that the brass strainer mesh was actually corroded away letting all kinds of large objects run through the pump. Finding a replacement was not easy but finally came across one made with stainless steel . The Cessna aluminum body low pressure pump was toast anyway so I replaced it with a later model cast iron pump and now it really rattles when it is cold. Quiets down when it warms up. I had meant to put a cow magnet in the bottom of the transmission before reassembling it but the day I did that I had no magnet.
