I'm starting to take the engine (G176) apart on my MF165. So far I've found scored cylinders, different oil control rings on 2 cylinders and scratches on the rod journals. The bearings are already 0.020 undersize so I probably can't take anything off them - Can't get bearings smaller than that can I? I'll probably only be able to polish them?
Also, I can open all the valves by pushing down on then with my hand. I'm assuming the springs are too weak or I wouldn't be able to do that.

Comments please.

You should probably be able to grind the crankshaft to at least .030 down, maybe .045. Ask the shop that would do it. They will have to supply the bearings to fit their grind anyway.

The springs sound less than strong. My I&T book on the 135, 150, and 165 says:
"Model MF165
Free length (approx.) 2-5/64 inches
Lbs test @ 1-21/32 .... 41-47
Lbs test @ 1-7/32 ... 103-110"

Searching on line, some places seem to have only .020 rod bearings but>Link
has>Link .030.

Some kits include springs with the valves.
